Yeah, I know it’s January 2nd already. But I’m still feeling sluggish. My internal clock got out of whack and I’m still trying to get it back. Heh. I think that rhymed.
Until then…
What are your top 10 most-played songs currently?
I tend to listen to a lot of different songs (vs. one artist/one album). So my last.fm Top 10 doesn't change often. There have been some recent shifts though.
My Media Center chart has less legacy information (I switch out applications and databases fairly often). But it offers a more current view of my most played songs.

Melissa posted an open letter to King Britt thanking him for his music and upcoming gig spinning for Barack Obama's Philadelphia Kickoff. It got me thinking of how great it would be if at least one of the 2008 presidential candidates chose a campaign song that doesn't suck.
“People Hold On”, the Coldcut club classic that helped launch Lisa Stansfield would be a great choice. The lyrics are perfect and it would get a younger crowd into the mood.
Furthermore, the music could be adapted for different audiences. Here’s a video of German hipsters Re:Jazz giving the song the jazz treatment and promoting their Expansion CD.
Expansion includes jazzy renditions of Herbie Hancock’s “Rock It” and classic house favorite “Promised Land”, as well as a cover of “Gabrielle” originally recorded by Roy Davis, Jr. and Peven Everett. Vocals on the Re:Jazz version are handled by the always tight Alice Russell (who tore up Apache Cafe this past weekend).
But back to “People Hold On”:
Everybody’s looking for a meaning
Everybody’s doing their own thing
And nobody’s solving the problem
Ain’t nobody helping each otherSome people give into fear
Some people give into hunger
Some of us live for the future
And some of us wonderGivin’ into life, givin’ into love
Maybe there’s enough for everyone
Givin’ into hope, and into trust
Maybe there’s enough for everyonePeople hold on
Don’t do yourself wrong
People hold on
We’ve got to be strong
People hold on
Gotta love those lyrics. Any other suggestions for kick-ass campaign signs that don’t suck?
What are your top 5 CDs/albums of 2006?
Submitted by eliz. s.
Top 5? This is jumping the gun a bit for me as I'm still getting into some releases from 2006. But here's a stab at 10 that are vying for the top 5 position (subject to shuffling):
- J Dilla aka Jay Dee - Donuts
- Joi - Tennessee Slim Is The Bomb
- Christina Aguilera - Back To Basics
- Gnarls Barkley - St. Elsewhere
- Anthony David - The Red Clay Chronicles
- Jaspects - Broadcasting The Definition
- Amp Fiddler - Afro Strut
- Clara Hill - All That I Can Provide
- Omar - Sing (If You Want It)
- Van Hunt - On The Jungle Floor
How could it be that I already suck at this Vox thing? I'm having difficulty balancing my side projects (yesterday, I spent 7 hours installing a computer network). I'm also unsure of how - if - I should differentiate this space from my other online personalities.
I'm liking the upgrades, though. The Compose window works better for me with the meta tabs on the top. The Vox server repsonse time has been a little wonky lately, though.

See I picks my friends like I pick my fruit
& Ganny told me that when I was only a youth
I don't go 'round trying to be what I'm not
I don't waste my time trying ta get what you got
I work at pleasin' me cause I can't please you
and that's why I do what I do
My soul flies free like a willow tree
doo wee doo wee do wee...

My parents never allowed me to trick-or treat. It wasn't until I got into college that I discovered how much fun dressing in costume can be.
Pressed for a costume idea at the last minute, I threw on a bath towel, some shower tongs and a back-scrubbing sponge. I took the authenticity of my costume too far. I was pretty much molested at the club the entire night.
This was sometime in the late 80s, when I was about 50lbs lighter.
Lizhini confessed that Mariah's Glitter is the most embarrassing CD she owns. I think that's pretty good considering.
If I were to choose, I'd have to go with LaToya Jackson's You're Gonna Get Rocked. I don't know anyone who has this CD.
To be honest, I really like the single. But LaToya clearly has no musical talent. In fact, I recall producers Full Force complaining they would never work with her again.
